Claiming Credits

To receive credits, participants must review the program materials in their entirety and complete the online post examination and evaluation. CME credits require a post examination score of 70% or higher. CE credits require a post examination score of 80% or higher.

Program Summary

The 4R Operational Diagnosis (4ROD) is a protocol for the clinical data collection and biologic assessment of the dental diagnostic findings of the patient signs, symptoms, Dentin, Endodontium, and Periodontium of a tooth of interest.

Using the 4ROD protocol generates eight sets of diagnostic findings which the clinician can evaluate to reach a definitive diagnosis by the end of the dental appointment. The sets of diagnostic findings are:
1. Patient Pain Profile questionnaire (PPP)
2. Dental history
3. Social and Medical history
4. Diagnostic imaging PA or/and BW of the tooth of interest.
5. Pulpal health status findings
6. Periodontal health status findings
7. Tooth structure status findings
8. Restorative dentistry findings

The R1.(Report findings); the Patient Pain Profile (PPP) is the highlight of the 4ROD protocol. PPP is assessed using the standard criteria of pain profile: Onset, Quality, Quantity, Duration, and Subsidence.

The R2.(Radiographic findings); focuses on the use of PA and BW radiographs as the most practical and accurate intra-oral radiology. R2 utilizes the 10 Areas of Diagnostic Interest protocol developed by the author to systematize the radiographic interpretation of Periapical Radiographs.

The R3. (Response testing); eliminated the use of Electric, Heat, Percussion, Bite, and Palpation tests as endodontic tests. R3 streamlined the pulpal response testing into Cold Pulp Test, and Fistula tracking, and Periodontal testing into the standard PI, BOP, PD, CAL, MMI tests.

The R4 Restorative and tooth structure findings focuses on visual and clinical examination of the tooth and gingiva Warning Signs.

Educational Objectives

The content of unit two is organized to accomplish the following objectives:

Use the eight diagnostic reports generated from the use of the 4R Operational Diagnosis (4RROD) in endodontics related periodontic and restorative dentistry treatments
List the 10 Areas of Diagnostic Interest (ADI)
Describe the Best Practices in the Diagnostics of Endodontics, Periodontics, and Restorative Dentistry

Target Audience

The target audience for this course is Dental Hygienists and Dentists from novice to advanced. No prerequisites required.

Dr. Abou-Rass brings nearly fifty years of cutting edge innovations in the field of endodontics and dental education. He pioneered the concept teaching molar versus central teeth as the best sequence for learning endodontic skills and developed the critical error approach to clinical performance evaluation.

In clinical endodontics, Dr. Abou-Rass has made a number of significant new concept and methodology contributions including:

Stressed pulp concept
Anti-curvature filing method
4R Operational Diagnosis Protocol
Composite Post and Core buildup protocol
Endodontic Treatment Finalization Protocol
Interim Endodontic Therapy for native bone regeneration before implant placement

In addition to his DDS, Dr. Abou-Rass holds a Master’s degree in Dental Science in Prosthodontics , a certificate in Endodontics and a Ph.D., in Higher Education from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Abou-Rass served as Endodontic Department Chairman and Director of the Advanced Endodontic program at the University of Southern California, School of Dentistry (1971-2000). Dr. Abou-Rass moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2000, where he directed the AEGD program at PAADI from 2000 to 2012.

Currently he is USC Professor Emeritus and publisher of Dental Economics MENA Journal and CEMENAOnline.com.

Requirements For Successful Completion

To receive credit for your participation in this webinar you will be required to complete the online program examination. At the end of the program a link will be provided directing you to the program course exam. Once completed and submitted an immediate grade report will be displayed. All participants scoring at least 70% on the examination will receive a CE Verification Form verifying 3 CE credits. Verification forms may be viewed and printed immediately as well as accessed anytime in the future (24/7) from within the user records page of this website.
